1967 Volkswagen Beetle Restoration
The Full Story
During the summer of my sophomore year, I restored a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle with my father. I had always wanted to restore a once lost antique since my dad had restored a Porsche with his father when he was my age. This restoration started with gutting the interior and exterior of its many rubbers, fenders, windshield, front and tail lamps, convertible top, and running boards. After eliminating the embellishments and taking the beetle to its structural bones, I took the bug to a professional car painter which allowed the car to be both restored in the most pristine condition and keep its value over time. In keeping the original color of red, we added some California coco mats to the base of the car. This project was incredibly rewarding as I learned how to get my hands dirty and learned how to use power tools, ratchets, and scrappers.
